RMS Rockstar of the Month – January

Our January Rock Star of the Month has been a team member at RMS for almost 20 years and has installed some of the most incredible stonework in the state of New Mexico. Sam is a very hard worker who takes on the most complicated jobs. His ability to finish large projects, with an eye for detail and precision, captures our TACTIC value of “incredible stonework” perfectly. It’s a rarity to have a call back on one of Sam’s jobs and he consistently is the most requested installer for our custom builder accounts. He has a great attitude and will put a smile on your face daily with his great sense of humor. Nash Lujan, our installation manager, had this to say about Sam:

“Sam is a real pleasure to have on our team. He takes on some of our most complicated jobs and always gets them done in a timely manner. He has a great attitude and a great sense of humor. He is always willing to help out and goes above and beyond to provide the best stonework available. He’s a real rock star!”

We congratulate Sam on his outstanding work ethic and his incredible stonework. Thank you, Sam, for all you do for RMS!

Where to Integrate Stonework in Your Home

Incorporating stonework into the design and decoration of your home can instantly elevate its aesthetic appeal. Whether used for walls, floors, countertops, or even outdoor landscaping, stonework adds a touch of elegance, sophistication, and natural beauty to any space. The versatility of this material, along with its durability and timeless charm, makes it a popular choice among homeowners and designers. Here are a few ways that you can give stonework a place in your home!

1. Interior Walls

One of the most striking uses of stone in home design is to create feature walls. Installing a stone wall in your living room, bedroom, or even the bathroom can create a unique focal point that adds depth and texture to the space. Different types of stones, such as marble, quartite, or travertine offer various textures, colors, and patterns to choose from, allowing you to design an interior that feels personalized to you.

2. Flooring

It can be easy to overlook flooring since it’s underneath your feet, but carefully selected stone flooring can bring natural beauty to any room. Apart from the aesthetic appeal, stone flooring also adds a layer of durability to high-traffic areas in your home.

3. Countertops

Stone countertops can add a touch of luxury and elegance to your kitchen or bathroom. Whether you choose marble countertops, granite countertops, or another type of natural stone, these countertops are durable and long-lasting. They can withstand heat, scratches, and stains, making them a practical choice for a busy home.

Signs of Superior Stonework Craftsmanship

When it comes to incorporating stonework into your home, we want you to have nothing but the best! Here are some signs to look for when trying to see if the quality of stonework is up to your standards.

1. Precision and Attention to Detail

The individual stones should be cut and shaped with precision, ensuring that they fit together seamlessly. Well-executed stonework will have tight and seamless joints that blend seamlessly, making sure there are no visible gaps or uneven edges between the stones. Professionals use techniques like bonding agents or skilled masonry to achieve seamless integration and flawless alignment.

2. Consistency in Color and Pattern

Another sign of quality stonework is consistency in color and pattern. We could spend all day discussing the beauty of natural stones’ unique variations in color and pattern. That just comes with the territory of starting with premium materials. High-quality stones boast exquisite color variations, distinctive veining, and superior durability. Good craftsmanship will make sure that these variations are evenly distributed so that the visual effect isn’t overwhelming. The transition between different stones should be smooth without any abrupt changes in color or pattern.

3. Properly Sealed and Finished

To protect your investment, quality stonework should be properly sealed and finished to protect the stones from staining, discoloration, and damage. A professional stonework company will apply the appropriate sealant and finish to enhance the stone’s natural beauty and make sure it lasts for a long time to come. The finish should be smooth, with no rough or uneven patches.

4. Structural Integrity

No walls are crumbling on our watch! With quality stonework, the stones should be securely and firmly installed, with no signs of movement or instability. High-quality stonework should withstand the test of time and remain stable without any signs of cracking or shifting.
