Work

Process

We start with the end in mind. We’ll find a hard surface solution, in the right color, to bring your dream to life. After material selection is complete, we’ll laser template your project, do a digital layout for our CNC cutting equipment, provide the proper edge finishes and then hand fit and finish all under counter sinks, radius work and jointing. Our installation team will provide the highest quality installation for years of maintenance free enjoyment.

Project Management

Rocky Mountain Stone has been producing stone countertops since 1986 when we fabricated our first granite countertop for a local car dealer.  Since that time, we’ve fabricated and installed over 1.5 million square feet of countertops throughout New Mexico, West Texas and Southern Colorado.  Our systems and process for efficiently producing countertops has been refined over the past 30 years to insure a high level and consistent quality of work, in a comprehensive and timely manner.

Templating

Once the material for your project arrives at our yard, we’ll call to schedule a template time and date. We’ll go over a checklist during the scheduling call that will include verification that the cabinets are all completely installed, your sink and stove cutout information is on site and that there will be someone onsite to review and approve all the design details of your project (material color, edge, joint locations, overhangs, etc.) Rocky Mountain Stone uses state of the art laser templating to insure an accurate fit when it’s time for installation. Once final sign off of the field drawing is complete, the job will move to our CAD department for layout and programming. If you selected the option for SlabSmith layout, you’ll be able to review the layout and approve it prior to cutting.

Fabrication

After the programming is complete, your job will be sent to the shop for cutting and finishing as per the approved shop drawing. Edges will be finished, sinks polished and the job will be laid out to verify tight joints, correct overall sizes and final sealing. Our quality control techs review each piece to ensure proper sizing and finishes to match the drawing. Once the fabrication is complete, the job is staged “on the rack” and ready for installation.

Installation

Your install will be scheduled for a specific time and day, usually within 6-10 days from final approval. We’ll call you the day before to confirm that you’re ready to get your new kitchen! If RMS is removing your existing countertops, we’ll show up either the day before (for tile or granite tops) or the day of (for laminate or Corian) to remove your existing tops. The install teams usually arrive on site between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. A typical install only takes one day to complete. If you are having us do tile backsplashes, we’ll show up the following day to start the tile install. Once the tile is complete, we’ll either grout the same day or come back the next day to complete grouting the job.

Countertop Options

There is a myriad of choices when it comes to countertop surfacing. Natural stones, including Granite, Quartzite, Soapstone and Marble come in every conceivable color. There are also a number of man-made surfacing options that include Quartz, Porcelain, and Dekton.

Our project managers can help you find the right material for every application and walk you through the design process to insure a stunning and lasting solution for your project.

Vanity Tops & Showers

Nothing looks more elegant or luxurious than a natural stone vanity top. The ease of maintenance coupled with the clean, crisp polished finish of natural stone will create a bath of timeless design and appeal. Studies have shown that bath remodels are second only to kitchen remodels as the highest return on investment at the time of resale of your home. In the Albuquerque market, you can expect to get over 100% of your money out of a bathroom remodel. Showers made from solid slab marble or granite are the epitome of luxury in today’s bath designs. The seamless panels make for the easiest cleaning available and the feel of a 5 star hotel.

Kitchen Countertops

Kitchen countertops make up a large part of what we do in our fabrication shop. Granite continues to be the material of choice for kitchen & BBQ tops due to its incredible, one of a kind beauty, functional durability and ease of maintenance. If you’re looking to remodel, surveys have shown that a kitchen remodel with Granite counters will return over 100% of the initial investment upon resale. Granite also has a higher perceived value than any other countertop surface, even though the cost is really comparable or in some cases lower than man-made materials. With 100’s of colors to choose from and over 20 edge profiles available, a design for any type of kitchen can be created that will add timeless beauty and practical usefulness to your living environment.

Outdoor

Outdoor kitchens and backyard patio areas are becoming a necessity in our high desert environment. Being a product of nature, stone is the perfect building material for your backyard getaway. It is both functional and unique in its design essence. Consider it for your BBQ tops, patio tables, paving, wall caps…the possibilities are endless.
